For a while…

Original illustration by Catherine E. White “For a while…”

When you are putting every effort into just keeping up with what has to be done next, it can feel like there is no room to breathe, let alone think. This drawing, done very quickly on the iPad, is about taking enough time to slow down to see where you are and to stop for a deep breath. The gaps in the color are suggesting both room to breathe, and gaps in perception when you are moving too quickly to appreciate the world around you. It also isn’t suggesting that all “doing” stops, indefinitely. Just that “for a while” you might give yourself some spaciousness to fill in the white patches and gaps to assimilate the full picture and set a new course of action. That is why some of the text is also written in white… it represents the negative space where a new thought can enter.
